The Beaufort County Department of Social Services is dedicated to assisting individuals and families in need of basic economic support and to providing opportunities for those individuals to become self-reliant through provisions of supportive services.
We encourage the right to self-determination and strive to provide services in a responsive and compassionate manner while maintaining the dignity and integrity of the individual. Toward this end and in cooperation with other public and private entities, we seek to enhance the quality of life of the citizens of Beaufort County.
Social work is a profession for those with a strong desire to help improve people's lives.
Other types of social workers include social work administrators, planners and policymakers, who develop and implement programs to address issues such as child abuse, homelessness, substance abuse, poverty, and violence. These workers research and analyze policies, programs, and regulations. They identify social problems and suggest legislative and other solutions. They may help raise funds or write grants to support these programs.
