Performs difficult professional work planning, directing, coordinating and supervising central permitting, zoning, code enforcement and building inspection programs, services, staff and functions within Beaufort County.  Provides leadership and directs the oprations and activities of the Department as department head.   Supervision is exercised over all personnel within the department.  Recruits and selects department personnel, assigns, directs, reviews and evaluates work of staff, promotes, demotes, suspends and terminates employees.  Prepares and administraters department budget.

Works as a team leader to ensure that meters are read for the month. Work involves reading meters, loading and unloading handheld unts, retrieving information from computer software to retrieve edits to complete billing information, connecting and disconnecting services, installing and removing meters, checking high usage complaints, performing troubleshooting and other field customer service.

Performs highly responsible fiscal control work in directing the activities of the County Finance Department as well as the cash collections and billing of the Water Utility Department.  Responsible for planning and administration of the systems and processes for receiving, disbursing, and accounting of revenues and expenditures for the County.  Work involves supervision of purchasing, accounting, collections, billing, cash investments, payroll operations, and insurance programs.  Compiles daily and monthly reports to insure accurate reporting.  Manages the investment of County funds and is responsible for the preparation of the annual budget with the assistance of the County Manager.  Work is performed in accordance with established County finance procedures, local ordinances, and NC General Statutes governing the responsibilities of local government fiscal operations.   Reports to the County Manager.

Plus $2,000 Associate or $4,000 Bacheors Degree

Provide a wide range of services to the public as a sworn law enforcement officer to include protecting lives, property, and rights of people in Beaufort County.  Serve as a School Resource Officer at a local school to deter crime, enforce laws, provide a positive law enforcement role model and use proactive prevention by exposing the human qualities of law enforcement to our youth.
